The College is working with members to develop an OT subset of terms for 'outcomes for patients'
The College is leading a national project to develop sets of clinical terms for use by OTs in electronic care record systems.
The UK national clinical terminology is SNOMED CT, with over 400,000 clinical terms, including terms collected in the 1990s by the UK Clinical Terms Project. Subsets are lists of related clinical terms. They will be used in drop-down lists to quickly and consistently select the correct ‘OT’ term to record in a service user’s electronic care record. The College has completed the first subset, the names of ‘Assessment tools used by occupational therapists’, due to be incorporated into the next release of SNOMED.
Members with experience of using Outcome Measure tools can contribute to this national project
The current focus is on developing an OT subset of terms for ‘outcomes for patients’. The project involves analysing outcome measure tools and then synthesising a single national set of terms for ‘outcomes for patients’, that will be recorded by OTs. Members with experience of using Outcome Measure tools, can contribute to this national project by joining the Outcomes Reference Group.
