The College of Occupational Therapists Specialist Section – Children, Young People & Families

- Acts as a consultant and advisory body on issues of national significance.
For the development of Occupational Therapy for children, young people and their families with physical,mental health and lerning needs.

The Children, Young People & Families Specialist Section is one of the largest Specialist Section of the College of Occupational Therapists and currently has in excess of 800 members.

The National Executive Commitee meets 4 times a year.Regional Groups
A comprehensive network of regional groups supports our members on a local basis by providing an information service through informal meetings, training events and courses.Managers Network
In addition we have a managers' network which is made up of anumber of regional mangers groups meeting on a regular basis to share information and provide professional support. Meetings provide an opportunity to discuss national issues, both in health and other agencies, and the implications for our services. This enables extensive sharing of information, both local and national, and gives opportunities to share expertise and develop guidelines for good practice.
Practice based subgroups
These groups are part of our extensive network, enabling professional competencies to develop nationally in occupational therapy services for children, young people and their families.We currently have 2 subgroups:Links with the College of Occupational Therapists

Members of the Nec attend meetings at COT with Louise Cusack, Specialist Section Officer.
Specialist Section Clinical Forum - currently attended by Eve Hutton and Jacqui Casey; this group meets 3 times a year and is made up of representatives of each specialist section.This group deals with issues relating to clincial issues such as research, practice and education. A quaterly report is submitted to this group.

Specialist Section Business Forum - currently attended by Louise Nicholl. This group meets twice a year and is also made up of representatives from each specialst section. This group deals with business issues such as finance, publicity and conference.
