What is the College of Occupational Therapists Specialist Section – People with Learning Disabilities?
We are a specialist section of the College of Occupational Therapists which supports Occupational Therapists working with people with learning disabilities.
Aims of the College of Occupational Therapists Specialist Section – People with Learning Disabilities
- To promote high standards of Occupational Therapy practice for people with learning disabilities.
- To encourage maximum interaction and support between Occupational Therapists working with people with learning disabilities.
- To share expertise, techniques, ideas and new information.
- To organise and encourage participation in educational events of contemporary interest.
- To act in an advisory and consultative capacity locally and nationally.
- To provide updates on developments in national policies affecting Learning Disability services
- To represent our members in the implementation of strategies for Learning Disability services.
- To encourage collaboration and understanding between Occupational Therapists and other disciplines.
- To emphasise the importance of educating Occupational Therapy students about the needs of people with learning disabilities.
- To support and encourage research projects and use of evidence based practice within the speciality.
- To promote CPD amongst members.
- To represent ourmembers at the Council of the College of Occupational Therapists.
